Site description

Nineveh House is 1.749ha and lies 2.3km to the southwest of Benenden and 3km to the northeast of Hawkhurst.

The site is not subject to any statutory or non-statutory nature conservation designations, however Parsonage Wood SSSI is located 1km east with White Chimney Wood, Hawkhurst a Local Wildlife Site located 188m southeast of the site. There are 19 Ancient semi-natural woodland parcels within 1km of the site.

The site comprises mixed scrub, other neutral grassland and a species-rich native hedgerow. The mixed scrub will be removed and the grassland enhanced to lowland meadows. The species-rich native hedgerow will be enhanced and extended to a species-rich native hedgerow with tree with an additional line of tree with associated ditch planted along the southern boundary.

The site will serve to increase areas of ecological importance in the wider landscape. As well as complimenting the local designated sites, the location of the site could, given the creation and enhancement of appropriate habitat, have the potential to support a number of species known to occur within the local area.

The proposed enhancement of grassland and hedgerow habitat will provide improved foraging and commuting habitat for bats and birds along with improving the foraging, dispersal and hibernation habitats for all reptiles and amphibians recorded in the local area.

These units are valid for a maximum of two years, provided site conditions do not significantly change.  If more than two years have lapsed between the site survey and habitat works being undertaken, an updated survey will be necessary to ensure recommendations remain valid.
