Emmie Bowlt

, MSci
Coast Explorer Intern

Emmie has just completed her 4-year integrated Masters MSci Biology course at UCL, specialising in Biodiversity and Conservation. This helped her develop key interests in freshwater and terrestrial habitat ecology, habitat conservation and environmental policy. During university, she has completed surveys on terrestrial vegetation, woodland birds, as well as participated in freshwater invertebrate surveys on the River Lea. However, marine biology has always been a key interest, particularly after participating in a 2-week volunteering marine research expedition in Italy. This involved recording acoustic, visual and ecological data on cetaceans and other marine wildlife.

She is now undertaking the 6-month Coastal Explorer Internship with Adonis Blue, funded by The Crown Estate, in partnership with Vattenfall and Canterbury City Council. Throughout this, Emmie will undertake a main research project investigating the role of Dark-Bellied Brent Geese as indicators for habitat health along the north Kent and Essex coastlines. Additionally, she will have the opportunity to gain work experience whilst collaborating with partners on projects encompassing marine and coastal ecology, conservation, renewable energy and community engagement.
